Console game impacts on HDTV

Microsoft started off the next-generation console war with a pre-emptive MTV unveiling of XBox 360. "Gaming in high-def 1080i!" was the big deal. A few weeks later, Sony fired back a volley with "Only 1080i? Ha! PlayStation 3 will have 1080p gaming and will support dual HD output!" Microsoft returned the volley last week in Japan when Bill Gates announced that future XBox 360 platforms may include HD-DVD drives.

What do we think of the console bickering? One word: BLISS. We say: let the gaming world continue to bicker and push each other around. All of the fighting is only leading to better technologies that will support and expand HDTV sets quicker. Even if you never touch either console, you're likely to see the impact in your living room through higher quality HD sets, more HD options and even better DVD technologies. Please, don't anyone break up the fight!
