Plasma TV from LG features internal DVR
Is it just us or are you seeing the trend too? Either way, we like it! LG is the latest HDTV manufacturer to include a built-in hard drive that functions as a DVR. Last week, we mentioned a similar set from Hitachi, but it's only available in Japan. The 50PY2DR became available here in the United States back in May, but we waited a few months to see the price drop from the $7,999 list price.
These days, the 50-inch plasma model with 160-gigabyte integrated drive runs around $4,600; still priced higher than other 50-inch plasmas, but you're getting HD-recording capability too. The drive doesn't provide an abundance of storage, however. Expect to record about 14 hours of HD programming at most. Native resolution on the set is 1366 x 768, so all signals convert to 720p. Did we mention that we like this trend?
