US finally mandates tech recycling plan

We're not sure why it took the government a few decades of gadgets to realize that obsolete technology needs to be dealt with differently than other kinds of trash, but it looks like we'll finally have a plan in place to dispose of our CRTs (oh come on, you know that's what you want most to get rid of), etc. That's right, for the first time in a long time, the words "bipartisan effort" are being used, and on someting environmentally conscious, too—The Electronic Waste Recycling Promotion and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. Of course, one proposition for recouping the credits offered consumers for recycling their old electronics is a "deposit" (like CRV, for instance) that could be redeemed once you turn the gadget in—hopefully that won't be very widely encouraged though, being that people keep their toys a number of years, and their cans a number of days.
