Big hard drives ranked by PC World
We're big believers in doing regular backups — but, of course, believing in something isn't the same as acting on it. As our internal hard drives have grown, backing up to CDs — and even DVDs — has become as much of a chore as swapping floppies was back in the day. So, PC World's roundup of XXL external hard drives is very welcome about now.
The magazine checked out 16 big drives, including USB/Firewire drives, network drives and multi-drive RAID units. Of course, the really mammoth drives don't come cheap — one fave, the 800GB Silicon Image SV2000 RAID drive was $2,000 —
but more modest options also made the cut, including Western Digital's $280 320GB Dual-option Media Center (pictured).
At that price, we really have no excuse not to do backups — but we're sure we'll find one if you give us a few minutes.
