Henrico County iBooks will go to residents first

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Henrico County, Virginia taxpayers will get first dibs on those $50 iBooks.

The Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 to allow the Henrico residents the opportunity to buy the laptops, which are county property, at a fixed price before they are available for sale to the general public. Accordingly, "the sale is open to anyone who resides in or pays taxes on property in Henrico. Prospective purchasers must provide proof of residency or tax payment."

The date of the residents-only sale has also been changed to Tuesday, Aug. 16 and it will be held at the Richmond International Raceway. No date has been set for sale of the iBooks to the general public, assuming any are left.

Whew... glad that's settled!
