New 1080p JVC display chip
Slated to compete with Texas Instruments' latest DLP chip, JVC will introduce a new D-ILA display chip capable of 1080p resolution. Most DLP televisions on the market today utilize the TI chip, which up until earlier this year were only capable of 720p resolution.
This next generation chip from JVC increases resolution, while at the same time is smaller by one-tenth of an inch when compared to D-ILA chips today. The new Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier chip will go into production this month, so it's unlikely we'll see it in HDTV sets for several months.
All of this display competition is great for the consumer. We've seen new technologies arrive, resolutions increase and prices decrease. The more display chips the merrier, I say! Do we have any D-ILA television owners out there? Why did you pick D-ILA over DLP, CRT, LCD or plamsa?
