Samsung MM-A800 reviewed: not quite ready for prime time

If you were hoping that
Samsung's MM-A800 — the first 2 megapixel
cameraphone available in the U.S. — could replace your standalone digital camera, it looks like you're going to be
carrying two devices around for a while longer. According to a thorough review by the AP's Bruce Meyerson — who
tested out the MM-A800 by using it to shoot the birth of his daughter — the MM-A800 suffers from many of the
problems that plague almost all cameraphones, including poor low-light performance and slow startup. He also found
one frustrating feature: when the slider's keypad is extended, the camera automatically defaults to low-res, on
the assumption that you're shooting for email. That's okay with us; we still can't see using a cameraphone for
anything but email.
