Toshiba plans higher margins and SED HDTVs

Toshiba firmed up details
on on their new sales and product goals, anticipating 13% sales increase through 2008. Anticipation is one thing: the plan behind it is more important and Toshiba outlined some of that plan. Toshiba will continue to focus on flash memory chips and notebook computers, but there is an increased focus on HDTV as well.

Toshiba will share the investment cost of 200 billion yen with Canon to manufacture SED or Surface Conduction Electron Emitter Display flat panel sets.
SED panels are more energy efficient that current LCDs and PDPs and provide a much greater contrast ratio. In addition to SED development,
Toshiba is also gearing up for HD-DVD players this year and comparable recording units in 2006.
