BenQ thinks LCDs will dominate PDPs
Plamsas will be a thing of the past if you believe BenQ. The Taiwan electronics manufacturer introduced some new LCDs yesterday and also made a bold prediction. Peter Chen, the BenQ GM for digital media says, "With improved brightness, a longer life, [and] radiation-free,
power-saving and other advantages, LCD TVs are very likely to replace PDP TVs in the near future." He could be right, but is anyone else concerned about the "radiation" comment?
The new BenQ LCDs are available in Taiwan in both a 37-inch and a 46-inch size. No word on the specs or if these sets are 1080p capable. Based on the $2,283 price tag of the smaller set, these are likely not much different than most other LCDs currently available.
What do you think: will LCDs give PDPs the boot? I expect we'll see plasma sets for years to come; hopefully, with reduced radiation.
