RCN adds HD channels with SHOWTIME deal
Virginia-based RCN just announced a deal with SHOWTIME that brings a little HD with it. RCN is known as a "triple-play" company, offering cable, broadband and phone service. SHOWTIME, The Movie Channel and Flix are all getting added to RCN's premium cable line-up.
RCN customers that subscribe to SHOWTIME and The Movie Channel will receive the HD feeds of those channels at no additional charge, according to the press release. I'd like to see more of this business model, i.e.; adding HD channels at no additional charge if you subscribe to the SD version of the channel. High-definition programming is scarce enough and one way to move consumers towards HDTV is to give them more of it.
