3D television in Japan by 2020

I love these types of technology announcements, but there's always another side to them. Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is funding a project to develop 3D television by the year 2020. Not content to just view three dimensional images, the project is aiming for touch and smell sensations as well.

Has anyone thought of what this will do to the home entertainment furniture market? I guess you'll have to put this set in the middle of your family room. What about sports? I don't think I want to smell the sweaty players during the event, as much as that might "add" to the experience.

I could see a whole new perspective to the way football players smack each other's bottoms on the field. The NFL is likely to gain a ton of female viewers if they can join in on the "pats". Maybe we'll get do a little end-zone dance around the TV too.
