Plasma TVs outsell rear-projection sets in Q2
According to a report by market research firm DisplaySearch, plasma TVs outsold rear-projection models for the first time in the second quarter of 2005 — except in North America, where cheaper big screen RPTVs still have the edge.
Overall, plasma displays now represent 2.9 of all units sold, with rear-projection sets falling to 2.5 percent.
DisplaySearch also reports that Panasonic is the top manufacturer of plasma TVs, with a global market share of 27% —
they're followed by LGE, Samsung, Philips, and Hitachi. But in terms of plasma panel suppliers, Samsung SDI is #1 with a 31% share, followed by Matsushita and LGE. We'd give you more details but we're not about to fork over the
nine grand DisplaySearch is asking for the complete report; besides, we can't believe you actually read this far anyway.
