Sony confirms no PS2 price cut this Christmas

Sorry, kids, it looks like Santa Sony is not going to be as nice this year. Despite rumors that the PlayStation 2 may see its price drop to $100, SCE UK boss Ray Maguire has told BBC that no such price cut will happen before this Christmas,
instead opting to use new software to drive the sales of its current generation console.

Honestly, did it need the price cut? Sony likely considered it, then opted out when they realized the incredulous package prices on the new Xbox 360. I think Sony is hoping to just ride the wave of ire that many feel against the Xbox 360 price plan.
