Apple seals deal with Cingular

Well, that's the latest in the long, loooong saga of the
iTunes phone. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple and Cingular have finally settled on an agreement that will have the carrier offering the Motorola ROKR music phone by the holiday season.
And, as suspected, the announcement will supposedly come at the September 7 media event in San Francisco. The source for all of this seems to be "people familiar with the matter" (aha!) who also confirm that Apple will be introducing an update to the iPod line on the same day, as also evidenced by the wording of the media event invitation which reads, "1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything.
Here we go again." The question still remains, then — are the music phone and the iPod update the same device? Oh, and we'd love to link directly to the WSJ article cited, but too bad — it's behind a costwall.

[Thanks, rob]
