Microsoft and Scientific Atlanta team up for IPTV
The IPTV market is too young and undefined to fully assess for impacts, but we know it's coming soon. Perhaps sooner than we expect since Microsoft and Scientific Atlanta announced a deal to collaborate in the IPTV world. The match-up is really a no-brainer in my book; aside from bandwidth, IPTV will require top notch hardware running quality software.
Microsoft brings the software experience along with their more recent forays into higher-quality Windows Media formats. Scientific-Atlanta contributes years of experience in set-top box hardware design and manufacturing. All of this complements the networking infrastructure that SBC brings to the table. While there is no specific mention of high-def programming, I'd be surprised and disappointed if these companies weren't planning ahead.
