End of an era; Myst creator Cyan closes doors
The creators of the first game that I ever bought, Myst, have announced that they are closing their doors due to lack of funding for future projects. The entire Cyan staff bar Rand Miller and Tony Fryman have been laid off and are now looking for employment elsewhere.
The original Myst sold over 12 million copies and held the title of best-selling computer game until The Sims was released. The game was partly responsible for the CD's increase in popularity as it was the first game to be released exclusively on CD. The titles spawned over a dozen other titles from sequels to comics to spoofs.
It's a sad day when a company so dedicated to games with involving storylines and immersive game experiences goes under. The upcoming Myst V (which will still be released) will remain the final legacy of both the story of Cyan and the world of ages.
