Anchorage goes all digital
After several missed deadlines, all six of Anchorage, Alaska's network affiliate television stations are pumping out a digital signal. Analog signals are still broadcast as well, since a majority of television owners do not yet have digital tuning capability. One of the stations, KYES, actually started broadcasting back in August 2003 through a unique approach.
Jeremy Lansman, the KYES president, purchased parts from eBay and built his own digital transmitter at his home. Utilizing the homegrown digital equipment, KYES has broadcast UPN programming to residents in the area. Maybe he wants to write for hack-a-day? If not, we have a new slogan for the station: "KYES: Saying YES to HDTV."
