T-Mobile bumping up to HSDPA in Europe while T-Mobile USA languishes
Get this: so while T-Mobile USA is only just now upgrading its data network to EDGE, T-Mobile International is already well on its way to bumping the already pretty fast UMTS
networks it has in the UK, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands up to an even faster version of 3G known as HSDPA.
T-Mobile execs confirmed that by March of 2006 they'll have switched every country that currently has UMTS over to HSDPA, which'll max out at 1.8Mpbs initially but might someday run as fast as 7.2Mbps (don't hold your breath). In the meantime, T-Mobile USA subscribers will be lucky if they can get a 100Kbps connection on their phone; the company admits that it's going to long time before they make the move to 3G here in the States.
