Direct TV to offer High Definition Upgrade for Free

According to a reliable TV rumor site, DirecTV will be offering a free upgrade to current HD subscribers. This is in response to the outcry from the owners of MPEG-2 boxes that will fail to receive the new MPEG-4 streams needed to carry new HD stations. Here is the catch. You may have to sign a one or two year contract. Plus, this offer will only be available for the 12 markets that will receive local HD later this year.
