The violence-detecting elevator
Not that we assume it'd be so hard to detect violence (or pretty much anything abnormal) in elevators when people normally more or less just stand silently staring blankly ahead, but if you're worried about what repercussions that
little trick you picked up could have when you use it,
check out this little bit by Mitsubishi Electric Building Techno-Service Co. Apparently their new surveillance system can detect unusual behavior and help prevent perpetrations by stopping and opening up the elevator at the next floor.
We're not sure exactly how much that would actually help someone getting assaulted or mugged in their elevator, but we have a feeling that most any building 'round these parts that could afford to outfit their lifts with such a system are probably in areas nice enough not to really need it.
