Playboy developer Cyberlore moves on to Serious Games
Cyberlore Studios officially announced this morning that it will be downsizing and reallocating all of its remaining development assets into its Serious Games Division, which means there's a good chance we'll be seeing a new Playboy developer sometime in the near future. As for the remaining staff at Cyberlore, they will now focus their energies on creating "corporate training software using game simulation technologies." Read
today's press release for further details.
The studio behind Playboy: The Mansion also holds the IP rights to the
mythical RTS Majesty, but not for much longer.
Befitting its exit from the interactive-entertainment business (and their publisher
Hip Interactive's collapse), Cyberlore "is currently soliciting offers to sell the rights to this award winning, best selling, much-loved franchise."
So will this affect the second annual Girls of Gaming
pin-up section of an upcoming Playboy magazine issue? Probably not, as they'll just find another company to take over development duties (if another game's what they desire). We have to wonder, though, whether Brenda Brathwaite, the lead designer on Playboy: The Mansion, and the
Sex & Games
Special Interest Group's chair and founder, will continue on in her SIG role(s) for the foreseeable future. Perhaps her continuance in the position(s) in question will prove her personal interest in the subject matter.
(Or perhaps not.)
[UPDATE: So, will Brenda Brathwaite continue on with the Sex & Games SIG? Brenda had
this to say in response, "Absolutely, not even a question in my mind." Thanks for the confirmation, Brenda!]
