Tracking tiny birds with tinier cellphones

Though it may ultimately cause them
blindness or cancer (or not), Oregon State University ornithologists are piloting (no pun intended) a program wherein miniature cellphones are strapped to songbirds' legs in order to track southerly migration patterns. Granted, the devices haven't actually been invented yet, and they don't actually have carrier support for the project... but, you know, minor details like that haven't stopped grant-seeking university types in the past, have they?
