Nokia plans BlackBerry killer
It's no surprise that Nokia covets the market for corporate mobile messaging, currently dominated by the
BlackBerry, with various smartphones scrambling for second place. What's surprising is how little the company has done to compete in the space (guess they've been too busy perfecting the N-Gage). However,
Nokia's ready to take on the Berry, with an initiative called Nokia Business Center (which we assume won't look like the 7700, pictured ... but it might). According to Nokia officials, Business Center will be a software product available on cellphones and other devices, including those made by competitors. Nokia will also allow service providers to package the service under their own brands. That approach might help Nokia compete more aggressively with hardware-agnostic companies like Microsoft, but could hurt it in a market where both IT managers and executives have developed a comfort level with the Blackberry and, to a lesser extent, Windows Mobile.
