Sony Bravia line comes to....Japan?

Normally, it's the other way around, isn't it? All of the cool gadgets and HDTV sets appear in the Far East while we drool over them here in the United States. Now it looks like the TV tables are turned as the new Bravia line will be available in Japan on October 1st.

This really didn't make sense to me, so I double checked SonyStyle for Bravia products, and sure enough, they are available for purchase here. The whole line is available; there are no less than five new Bravia LCDs ranging in size from 26- to 40-inches.

I don't know why the new line wasn't introduced in Japan prior, since they have been here since last month. The Japanese market is really killing Sony, which currently has a 20% television market share there. Sony's goal by the end of 2005 is to aggressively raise that share percentage to thirty. Is this the beginning of a trend where consumer electronics are developed overseas but then are first released here?
