Verizon FiOS under test and under-priced?

Verizon is testing its FiOS DTV offering in the Texas area and apparently somebody got a look at what Verizon plans to charge. According to the rate card, a 180 digital channel package will cost $39.95 per month, which is much lower than most comparable cable packages. Similar to cable and satellite TV providers, Verizon plans to charge monthly equipment fees. A standard set-top box will run $3.95 a month, while an HD-capable box will cost $9.95 per month.

Offsetting the lower package costs are higher priced premium packages but these are inconsistent. 14 HBO channels will add $14.95 to the monthly bill; however, an assorted package of 26 different premium movie channels is only $11.95.

Sadly, there isn't any info on high-definition programming or prices just yet. We'll keep watching for those and to see if Verizon will continue to undercut their competition. If anyone has the Verizon FiOS service, please use our Tips form to tell us!
