Circuit City profits boosted by LCD and PDP sales

Circuit City turned a year ago loss in to a penny-per-share profit thanks to TV sets flying off the shelves. Sales growth in LCD and PDP sets are in double, on in some cases, triple digits. Second quarter sales increased 71% over a year ago, registering in at $2.4 billion. Circuit City really needed to report some good news as they are lagging behind Best Buy in a big way. Worse yet, Wal-Mart's electronics sales passed Circuit City back in 2002; a trend that Circuit City would love to reverse.

The company also reported that it will spend about $200 million to revamp some of its stores. When they say "revamp", I'm not sure what they mean. If it means revamping their infrastructure to better manage their products and inventory, then I'm all for it. If it means revamping on a cosmetic level, I say save the money and lower the prices a little. Do you bypass Circuit City because of their store cosmetics, better prices from competitors or another reason entirely?
