HD Nation 9/27 - One nation under a groove

And that groove is a high definition one. Not everyone is as obsessed with HD as this guy, but if you're watching (and talking about) HDTV, then we've got room on the bandwagon.

Whether its the excitement the first time you saw an HDTV and knew you had to have one, laying around all day doing nothing but watching HDTV, or letting off some steam about HDTV broadcast issues, it's all about what you've got to say about your high definition experience. Look for regular updates and if you see (or make!) an interesting HDTV related blog entry, let us know.

Jeremy wants you to know how good Threshold is in HD:

"When I had reviewed the pilot episode, it was only the first hour of Friday's two-hour broadcast. Watching the two new episodes back-to-back gave me a new appreciation of the series. The HDTV feed was impeccable
- this is a beautiful show, visually and audibly. Most notable is the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix. The mix was really heavy, and my subwoofer got quite a workout. The surround channels were also very lively. It was up to par with most feature films. Very impressive."

Note: I watched the show just off of his recommendation and enjoyed it greatly, it looked and sounded great, and is a pretty good show too. If you're like me and looking for something to replace The 4400, this is the show.

Max can't believe how far technology has come in his lifetime:

"I ain't that old... I've gone from aged filmstrips in High school (you know how ALL of them became monochromatic red?) to streaming video.
I've gone from manual typewriters to voice assisted word processing.
From 3 channels of TV to 30 channels of HDTV, alone.
An yet, at each point along the continuum I am always in just that time. I rarely consider filmstrips, anymore. I have to actively wrack my brain to remember the 8mm cartridges of film loops, and I cannot remember what kind of athletic shoes were my first. I have no real idea what the next
"taken-for-granted" breakthrough will be."

LJ loves his high def projector, and can't see why anyone would buy something else:

"lcd projectors:
Boxes which spit out a big video onto your wall.
I
have a 120 inch 16:9 picture on my wall. 1280X720p. HDTV, and it cost me less than a 30inch plasma. which, by the way, are the worst display technology around. People are stupid."

Brian is a little peeved over the HD-DVD & Blu-ray scuffle:

"Still, it is upsetting to see HD-DVD have a victory after their recent setbacks. Another opportunity for them to talk to consumers how cheaper they are, despite the fact it is cheaper only for the replicator company, not for the consumer. I am going to go and try to relax knowing I shouldn't be upset over such silly things."
