Toshiba gets the lead out to meet EU green rules
No, they're not made of hemp or powered by wind, but Toshiba's latest laptops are considered "green," nonetheless. The Tecra S3 and M3 (pictured) are, according to the company,
the first laptops to adhere to new European regulations that limit the levels of lead, tin, mercury and other metals and chemicals in electronics. Of course, other laptops may already be compliant and their makers just haven't gotten around to hyping it yet, since the rules don't go into effect until next July. Other than the green side of things, the specs on the laptops are fairly standard; the previously announced M3 has a 1.6HGz Pentium M and weighs about 5 pounds; the S3 has a 15-inch display, 1.86GHz Pentium M, and a fingerprint reader.
