Ericsson and SeaMobile bring 3G wireless voice and data to sea

According to MobileMag, Ericsson and SeaMobile have struck a deal to bring 3G wireless voice and data service out to sea, reaching cruise lines, ferries, yachts, container ships and offshore oil and gas facilities. On   Ericsson's side, they'll be providing the complete wireless network for the service, including hosted core infrastructure, GSM
radio equipment, and network monitoring. SeaMobile will be making use of various maritime satellite services with radio base stations placed onboard ships, and communication secured through satellite links to the hosted core network on shore. No word on what all this will cost to end users, but we're thinkin' it best come free with the cruise, dig?
