Oct 1: What's on HDTV today

What we're watching
:
It's the first "Saturday Night Live" in high-def, so you know we're catching that on NBC
at 11:30 p.m. in glorious 1080i. SNL had a 30-year run in SD, so let's see if they go another 30 in HD. Of course, in thirty years we could be watching televisions that are four-times the resolution of today's.

Since SNL is at the tail-end of the day, we'll watch a little college football this afternoon when Florida takes on Alabama at 3:30 p.m. in 1080i on CBS. After dinner, I'm settling down for "The Fifth Element" on TNT-HD
at 8:00 pm in 1080i.

The 1997 sci-fi flick is is visually spectacular,
but plot-immature. Makes sense since it was written by director Luc Besson when he was a teenager; still, worth a HD viewing. It's the meat in a Bruce Willis sandwich since TNT-HD is showing other Bruce Willis movies before and after it.

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

Here are some other HDTV programs showing on selected networks today. All times are Eastern:

ABC: Invasion (8 p.m. and 9 p.m), Commander-in-Chief (10 p.m.)
