802.11n vs. UWB: let the battle begin
Sure, you've already picked up that pre-n router for your network, and you're eagerly awaiting still more bandwidth.
But the battle over the next leap in wireless networking is far from over, and as this in-depth, illustrated article from Nikkei points out, "11n offers a long range of up to 200m, and is viewed as the most likely contender for the home network backbone. UWB, on the other hand, is likely to make best use of its low-power, high-speed operation in short-range equipment interconnect, such as personal computers (PC) and portable equipment." Does this mean that 802.11n and ultra-wideband will soon live together in perfect harmony? Hardly. A host of issues, ranging from manufacturing challenges to ITU standards questions, remains to be solved before either platform can become a real standard. In the meantime, you may just want to hang onto that g router (or the pre-n one) just a little bit longer.
