Japanese labels lobbying for "iPod tax"
Hot on the heels of Japanese musicians signing directly with iTunes, the Japanese music labels are now lobbying for a royalty tax of 2-5% on the retail price of digital music players to make up for "lost revenue from home copying." Looks like these record companies just can't stop asking for a bigger slice of the pie, as they've been trying to raise iTunes music prices and demanding cuts of iPod revenue. Fortunately, some countries like Canada have already put their foot down and gone so far as to turn over an mp3 player tax and refund money. Go Canada!
