PS3 creating a new world of entertainment?
According to a Sony Q&A celebrating the PlayStation's 10th anniversary, Polyphony Digital pres Kazunori Yamauchi stated that the PS3 will usher in the beginning of
"a new world of entertainment," "different to that of what we have called 'games' up to today."
Also, in what could be either a confident push for the PS3 or the worst PR flamebait we've seen in a while, Yamauchi gave this glowing assessment of Sony's next home console (er, super computer): "The PlayStation 3 is the first piece of hardware allowing photo-realistic computer graphics, and is the first game hardware that can perform calculations for physics simulation to the level of our satisfaction."
We suppose that being able to make all those floating-point calculations helps in the physics-simulation department,
but this statement from the man behind the Gran Turismo series really discounts the rendering capabilities of the Xbox 360, which, of course, is coming out well before the PS3. Stay tuned for more wild/bold statements in the coming days, folks, ?cuz it ain?t called a console war for nothing.
