The $500 PC gaming rig

Tom's Hardware has posted a how-to article for building a capable PC gaming rig for around
$500. They ended up with an Athlon 64 3000+ system with a GeForce 6600. The rest of the specs include 512MB of RAM, an 80GB Hard Drive, a 330 Watt power supply and a DVD reader drive. They failed to include an operating system or any kind of peripheral with the deal, so this isn't a full system.

If you're looking to build a budget PC gaming rig, Joystiq's tip is to go second hand.
It's not hard to pick out a cheap and capable PC from eBay that only requires a small amount of upgrading to play the latest games at acceptable speeds. It's more risky than ordering new components, but your wallet will be much more happy because of it.
