Samsung should watch a Master Card commercial

Not a good day if you're Samsung as there are two big developments; neither of them are positive and one brought on the other. First up is a big ol' smack on the bottom for Samsung's role in price fixing. Setting aside funds to pay the fine certainly doesn't help the bottom line either. In fact, even without this issue, Samsung only earned $1.8 billion in the third quarter; far below the $2.6 billion in the same period the year prior.

Samsung has a great HDTV product line and competes well in various other facets of the consumer electronics space. In this day and age however, there's something much more important that Samsung and so many other companies need to excel in: the lost art of respectfully treating the public.

  • Antitrust fine: $300-million.
  • Cost of falling chip prices and stiffer competition: $800-million.
  • Value of honesty to your customers: Priceless.
