Sony's XDCAM HD records to Blu-ray
We're still waiting for some Blu-ray on the consumer end, but Sony is already pushing the format into acquisition duties on their XDCAM line. It actually took them a bit longer than expected, but so it seems has Blu-ray.
Previously a high-end SD DVD recording camera, the XDCAM can now record some juicy HD onto those crazy capacious Blu-ray discs. Similar to consumer DVD-R cams on the market, the XDCAM HD will record to the smaller 8 cm discs, so you should get about 15GB of room for the storing the MPEG-2 1080i signal. Unlike the
consumer DVD cams, the original XDCAM has reviewed well and it looks like the XDCAM HD, which comes out next March, should be a pretty slick HD solution; especially with 24p skillz and a price around 20 grand.
