Dublin taxis equipped for peace of mind

Taxis have certainly seen their
share of technology thrown at 'em in the hopes of reducing both customer and driver fears alike. Now in Dublin, a company called Xpert Digi Taxis is rolling out 200 taxis, each equipped with in-car cameras, emergency panic buttons, and a
GPS tracking device. The cameras interface via Bluetooth with an in-car XDA IIi which not only stores the camera images but also provides a link to dispatch. Punters can even pay electronically via a Chip 'n PIN payment terminal which will authorize payments over GPRS. Great, but how much of that cool €3.85 mil invested is gonna hit our fare?
