Sony Vaio TV-PC available for pre-order
We saw this back in August and it's finally available for pre-order. The new Sony Vaio VA PC-TV
will set you back around two-g's, but you get a slick Media Center PC
with either a 17- or 20-inch WXGA screen capable of 1366 x 768 res.
There are various video card options from ATI and nVIDEA ranging from 128 MB to 256 MB of video RAM under the hood; and you'll need all of those ponies if you plan to upgrade to Vista next year.
The all-in-one form factor
is nice for folks that don't yet have a big-screen HDTV or for folks that want to supplement their media room. One thing missing in my view:
no digital outs for that big-screen HD set you might already have. The Vaio does support wireless 802.11b\g so you could pipe out some programming if you have a streaming media device for your television.
Missing output aside, it's clear that the Vaio is geared to be the centerpiece your media center and work area. The specs indicate it's beefy enough to be your all-in-one PC and digital television; unless you want to use CableCARD, of course. When will we see CableCARD integration with WMCE?
