Why does HDTV look so good?

 
This is a question I've frankly been scared to ask until now, looking in the high definition gift horse's mouth and whatnot, I thought maybe HD looked good because it was powered by Pure Evil®. Luckily HDTV Magazine has allayed these fears and many others by explaining that the secret lies within the workings of my inferior human brain.
