Intel launches new PC benchmarking system, a strike at AMD?
AMD is making big strides by taking advantage of media center pc sales, but the cat is coming home as Intel is showing off their "Digital Home Capabilities Assesment Tool" (DH-CAT). This test is aimed squarely at home theater PC users and reviewers, running tests on encoding capabilities, video quality and streaming. Of course, it only runs on systems equipped with Intel processors. For a thorough breakdown of the DH-CAT and Intel's other new benchmark, the G-CAT for graphics and evaluating game performance (but not just frame rate), check out Silent PC Review's in depth look.
Evaluating system performance in playing HD content is very important to many buyers today, so these tools should come in handy, but could Intel be making this push not just because of AMD's Media Center inclusion, but also because AMD has started beating them in some conventional processor benchmarks recently?
