Texas Instruments DLP drives record revenue
Texas Instruments
recorded record revenues, but fell short of analyst's expectations. Ah,
the analysts probably haven't seen the new DLP-powered televisions yet,
that's all. The Dallas, Texas company reported sales of $3.59 billion for the quarter; a 10% increase from the year-ago quarter.
A whopping $3.13 billion of the revenues was the result of TI's semiconductor unit. You know, the area that produces DLP chips?
Revenue in this area increased 13% over the year-ago period, which is somewhat surprising. With the growing demand for DLP televisions and the introduction of 1080p-capable DLP chips, I would have thought this to be higher growth. Maybe I'm like the analysts: I expect too much.
