Controllers better than a keyboard and mouse for gaming?

keyboard through desk

IGN has posted an article on the subject of the best way to control games. They pitted seasoned Xbox gamers against equally experienced PC gamers, and swapped their controllers and keyboards for each others input device of choice.

Surprisingly the article swings towards the game controller being the most favorable way to control games. The situation that this conclusion is based upon is centered around a PC gamer (armed with an Xbox 360 controller) beating an Xbox gamer playing the same game with a keyboard and mouse. Not exactly a scientific test then.

I get the feeling that this time old argument between PC and console gamers is slightly irrelevant. I use a controller when playing my console because I'm sitting at my sofa. I could hardly lug a keyboard and mouse from my desk everytime I play. On the other hand, I don't use a controller to play Halo on my PC/Mac because it's harder to aim. That's why first person shooters on console invariably have some sort of aiming assistance. It's like comparing a take-away Pizza to a 5 course meal. They're for different occasions and situations, but that doesn't mean you can't appreciate both of them.
