RIM vs. NTP Round 253: Chief Justice Roberts denies RIM request
Further drama in the RIM proceedings that we've been following for what seems like close to a decade now: still-wet-behind-the-ears Chief Justice John Roberts refused RIM's request to stay a lower court ruling while the Supreme Court decides whether to hear RIM's appeal,
although RIM can still refile its request with one of the other justices. For those of you not as attuned to this spectacle as we are, RIM is fighting (despite repeated
attempts at reconciliation) both to have a previous patent ruling involving NTP
invalidated, and to keep NTP from blocking BlackBerry sales in the US. Roberts' ruling follows a series of setbacks for RIM, the latest of which was an appeals court's refusal
to stay a prior cessation of sales ruling. The next step in this still-unfolding melodrama will take place in U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where RIM will be battling once again to keep their addictive Crackberries on store shelves.
