Oct 29: What's on HDTV today

What we're watching:
Let's pick a mix of sports and scary stuff today. The sports start as early as 1 p.m. with the eight-race Breeders Cup on NBC
in 1080i. This is another sport that actually looks fantastic in high-def because the track surface and bright colors of the riders and horses. I didn't watch horse-racing until it went to an HD production and now I routinely check it out when I can. Drop in and tell us what you think.

If the five-hour horse-racing event gets you tired, hop on over to CBS
for an SEC college football matchup. Florida takes on Georgia at 3:30 p.m. in 1080i. In the evening, it's time to celebrate that Halloween season once more. "Monsters, Inc." ought to do the trick on ABC
at 8 p.m. No, it really isn't that scary, but it's great flick that the whole family can watch in 720p! If you haven't seen this digital animation film in high-def, this is a must-see. You can thank me later. Oh, and use both eyes unlike my pictured friend.

After the jump is our traditional listing of HD programs throughout the night.

Here are some other HDTV programs showing on selected networks today. All times are Eastern:

ABC (720p): Monsters, Inc. (8 p.m.), Desperate Housewives (10 p.m.)

CBS (1080i): CSI: NY (8 p.m.), CSI: Miami (9 p.m.)
