Programmable DSP for HD decoding

Austria's On Demand is adding to the already crowded group of video decoder manufacturers with their SVEN (scalable video engine) chip. Capable of video at resolutions of up to 1920x1280 and in all the usual codec suspects (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, h.264, VC-1) their trump card is that this chip is not hardwired but software programmable and capable of performing varied tasks. You can get more information on what it does by checking this month's Nikkei Electronics Asia.

Enough talk about the insides, when is somebody going to take one of these and put a 1080p STB in my entertainment center?
