Google Local goes mobile
If you can't get enough of Google Maps — or want a mobile mapping solution without springing for GPS — you'll be pleased to know that Google Local has gone mobile with a Java-based
(J2ME, to be exact — not BREW, as USA Today claims) version of Google Maps as the centerpiece. Not all carriers are currently supported, with some notable omissions being Verizon and Nextel (not to mention BlackBerry and Palm devices).
However, if you're on Cingular, Sprint or T-Mobile, and have a phone that supports J2ME — along with a data plan that won't bankrupt you — you should be good to go.
