Become a US Rep. and get a plasma?

There are many perks when you become a representative in the House but I
never thought that a plasma was one of them. Each lawmaker is given on average $1.2 million a year to spend on salaries of staff members and other things around the office. Sometimes these "other things" can out of control. According to a report by The Hill three Representatives spent $5,700 each on plasmas for their offices and another spent $444 on a TIVO that I am sure will not be used to record reruns by Friends.

In their defense, every modern office needs a flat panel; they just look cool. But what kind of 42-inch plasma did Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-Texas)
spend $7,309 of our tax dollars on? The TIVO does make sense though and personally, I'm not upset about that. I often rewind the news to watch something again and I could see them using it on C-SPAN a lot. In fact, the TVs are not that big of deal as long as I do not walk into my local representatives office and see a Fujitsu hanging there. Then we would have a problem.
