DVD Station offering HD content for iPods?
Looks like HD for Indies found the information on this that I couldn't find last month. I'm still not sure what the deal is because I can't find this press release on DVD Station's website, so check it here. The long and short of it: DVD Station plans to offer downloadable HD content for video iPods. Now let the questions begin...
First off, we figured the iPod could be used as an HD transport mechanism,
but not as a player. How does DVD Station expect the iPod to output HDTV content? Second, the press release indicates that an full-feature film in high-def will take only 2 minutes to download. Let's assume that's correct, but how long will it take to transfer to my iPod? I
figure you're looking at a few gigabytes of data for a two hour movie;
do I really want to stand around in their kiosk while that's happening?
While the press release is promising, this looks like an idea whose time hasn't come yet. When I see PR's like this, filled with high-level ideas and very few details, I tend to write the company or product off.
I won't do that in this case; instead, let's see how DVD Station moves forward on this. I would love for this idea to become a reality and I open the floor to them for additional details.
