German politician seeks violent games ban

Andreas Scheuer, a member of Germany's Parliament and the conservative Christian Social Union is calling for a "complete ban" on violent videogames.  Scheuer said that
"parents should take responsibility for the games their children play, but that the government should do its bit to help less media-competent adults."  So how is it that removing a parent's ability (or right?) to determine what their own children (or they themselves) should be playing counts as the government "doing its bit"?  Germany already has some of the strictest game censorship in the world and since Germans already play games less than the rest of Europe, will the industry even bother tailoring its titles to sidestep a measure such as this?
