Microsoft supports HD-DVD and don't forget it

Microsoft has gone public with an announcement
that they are still supporting HD DVD despite numerous movie studios are not. Balmer just wants to make sure that you don't forget it. They have plans to integrate it into Vista sometime down the road, but like anything they do, it will come via a service pack and not out of the box.

You know, I'm not an expert on PC hardware anymore after making the wise jump to OS X a few years ago, but how hard can it be to support HD DVD right away? Microsoft has to have a gazillion programmers working on this new OS around the clock but they are still going to make the consumer wait for native support of a technology they are helping to promote. This is not the "Apple fan boy" talking in me but rather a frustrated consumer.

If Microsoft is going to cry from the mountain tops that they support HD DVD, why are they going to make the consumer wait to use it in their operating system?
